With today’s technology, we can combine modern software tools with the latest and best safety practices. The outcome is a safer environment for all to travel and operate in. Two companies have emerged to help assist in these missions. ARGUS and WYVERN. A flight department can choose to be part of either one of these standards, or utilize both to ensure that are operating in the safest environment possible while keeping risk to a minimum at all times. Operating only in the safest environment possible with the smallest amount of risk should be a top priority for any and every operator.
Who Is ARGUS?
ARGUS stands for Aviation Research Group US for any operator with at least one turbine aircraft on their certificate. They are well known as the standard of excellence worldwide. There are three different ratings that operators can fall into, each including the lower level standards into the next.
ARGUS Ratings
Gold
In-depth research is conducted into multiple databases and other reputable sources. By gathering historical information on the certificate, pilots, and their aircraft serial numbers, the operator is processed and scored.
Gold Plus
Gold Plus status is available once an operator has met all of the Gold Rated requirements. ARGUS will then offer an on-site safety audit that will give the operator Gold Plus Status.
Platinum
As of 2021, only 141 operators qualify for the highest standard available. This is the highest level that can be achieved within the ARGUS rating system. Only experienced operators that have a well-developed Safety Management System along with other policies and procedures are eligible. All major aspects of operations and maintenance must be well documented.

Who is WYVERN?
WYVERN uses the IS-BAO standards as a primary baseline for the audit process through a virtual or on-site audit. Simply put, all data is sent do WYVERN by the operator every 90 days and the information is reviewed.
WYVERN Ratings
WYVERN consists of only two different rating levels.
WYVERN Operator
By maintaining WYVERN Operator status, companies are assisted in maintaining regulatory compliance for their pilots, aircraft, and organization. Through the use of software, international and federal regulations while supplying the framework to professionally manage risk.
WYVERN Wingman
Based on ICAO standards for commercial air transport, the Wingman standard is globally recognized as the gold standard in air charter sourcing. An initial inspection must be conducted by WYVERN’s safety advisors by performing an on-site two-day audit. The audit is then conducted every 24 months after the initial inspection.

How Your Flight is Effected
Thankfully for me, I have always worked for top-rated companies. Maintenance and training are never acceptable places to cut corners. Safety standards such as ARGUS and WYVERN keep companies honest and help point out issues that need improvement before it becomes a problem.
Unfortunately, everything listed above costs time and major effort to put together and stay within safety standards. But in the end, your flight, crew, aircraft, and operator have been looked at through a microscope to ensure that only the safest possible outcome is being planned for.
